Roy Thomson Hall Roy Thomson Hall, opened in the fall of 1982, is part of Toronto’s proud legacy from acclaimed architect, Arthur Erickson. Nestled gem-like amid the heart of the city’s downtown entertainment core, it continues to be of vital artistic influence. Since 1982, it has played host to thousands of world-renowned artists and orchestras, celebrated hundreds of landmark anniversaries, luminaries, galas, festivals, and important business and community occasions. It is managed by The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall and is home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Fundraising for the $57-million building began in 1977 with Pierre Trudeau, William Davis, Paul Godfrey, and David Crombie as honorary chairs. Construction began in 1978, and the hall was named shortly before its inauguration, 13 Sep 1982, to recognize a $4.5-million donation by the Thomson family.
